Earthworm is a kind of creature that is recognized by almost everyone and has also been seen very often. But, did you know that it helps in terms of bringing rich soil to surface by mixing up the soil altogether? It is a wonder how such small creatures are capable of making larger things happen in the right manner so that they ultimately prove to be a great help. But in case someone wishes to understand the underlying facts regarding this creature, one needs to go through the detailed internal anatomy of an earthworm. |
As far as the full external anatomy of this creature is concerned, its front end is known as the prostomium and is a kind of bump over the mouth. The back end is known as the anus, from where it passes out the solid waste material. The overall length is composed of various segments that are separated by a very thin wall, which is known as a septum. On the flipside of the mouth, there is a very smooth and thick section, which is called as clitellum. It has a rounded back surface, whereas the belly surface is quite flatter. There are pores located in the segments found on this creature. Liquid waste is expelled through all these pores. There are also a few larger pores towards the front end, which can be seen easily. They are very important in terms of reproduction and are known as genital pores.
On the other hand, the internal anatomy of earthworm indicates that there is a light colored organ known as pharynx and is actually located inside its mouth. The other body parts of the creature include hearts, blood vessels, gizzard, reproductive organs, nerve cord, intestine and many more.
