Hence, Anthropology refers to the study of humanity. The field of Anthropology is divided into four distinct fields, biological and cultural anthropology, linguistics and archaeology. There are many who confuse archaeology and anthropology. However, it has to be noted that anthropology is a superset that comprises archaeology and has a much broader focus.The basic premise of anthropology is what defines humans and who the ancestors of the present day Homo sapiens are. Apart from this, the study of human traits including physical characteristics and cultural and behavioral attitudes are some of the questions that Anthropologists grapple with. Linguistic anthropology concerns itself with studying the origins of language and the linkage between the pre-historic dialects and modern day languages.

We as humans are inquisitive and ever searching for answers to the questions that define our existence. We have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and to find out where we came from and what our history is. Anthropology provides answers to these and informs us about our roots and other metaphysical questions.

Finally, the diversity of human species and the varied cultural roots make Anthropology a diverse field that encompasses several lines of study as outlined above. Anthropology scores over other fields in its ability to grasp the diversity and weave together a common thread among them.
