This field examines culture as a scientific concept and studies cultural variations among human beings. The focus of Cultural Anthropology is on collecting data about the impact of social and political factors along with economic forces on the cultures of people.The methods used by Cultural Anthropologists include surveys, questionnaires and field studies apart from theoretical research. What this means is that cultural anthropologists use a mix of empirical and theoretical tools and techniques in their studies of complex cultures and their interactions with other cultures. Cultural anthropology can be said to focus on the interactions between cultures as well as interactions within cultures. In this respect, it is a holistic approach towards studying the impact of larger forces on the cultures.

One of the prominent aspects of cultural anthropology is the emphasis on ethnographic studies. Essentially, ethnography means understanding and studying a culture from the perspective of the culture and its adherents. Hence, if cultural anthropologists want to study a particular culture in Africa, they have to learn to look at the culture from the eyes of the people who adhere to the culture and cannot impose outside perspectives in their studies. Cultural Anthropologists focus their attention on the ways that peoples in cultures express themselves by use of symbols and imagery. The myths and rituals of the culture are also studied by cultural anthropologists. These insights are then used to form theories about cultures and the behavior of the peoples that follow these cultures.
