Ancient Greeks were very intelligent and they have been instrumental in various kinds of development across the world. They used the principles of mathematics, science, medicine, engineering and architecture much earlier, even when the rest of the world did not even know about them. They also were the leaders in mathematics.The ancient Greek architecture reveals several complicated principles and mathematical formulae. People like Pythagoras played a key role in ancient Greek architecture. The earliest of the buildings that were built by the Greek civilization was in the new Stone Age, and they comprised of mainly huts and small houses. They had wooden walls for protection. After a few centuries, there were bigger houses with stone walls and also what seemed like settlements were villages.

The Bronze Age mainly had bigger houses, and the house in the middle of the village was the biggest house. This perhaps belonged to the leader of the community. They were also made of bigger stone walls. In the latter part of the Bronze Age, there were several influences of western Asian architecture found. The Minoans were the first to start building palaces and big stone tombs. There were also roads, bridges and dams constructed during this period.

The Iron Age displayed a lot of temples and more complicated architectural styles. They were built in the Doric style, and in this period there were more houses and fewer palaces. There was newer kind of roads built.
