Right from the Persian Mughals to British, Dutch and many more have invaded the country and have also left their mark. One of the last ones to invade was the British. So, in India you will find influences of several types of architecture. The kings who ruled India also built huge buildings which lent their own signature to the history of Indian architecture.The earliest constructions in India dates to the Indus Valley Civilization, and is found in the cities of the Indus valley. India’s architecture is mainly studied through its temples and religious places. Among the temples, the chaityas, viharas and the stupas are the main structures. Most of the construction that took place in ancient India was mainly influences by cultural, racial, and ethnic influences. For example, when the Mughals ruled, they built a lot of buildings that signified the Muslim architecture. They typically consisted of minarets and domes. Northern India comprises of several such buildings.
It is very complicated to study ancient Indian architecture today as most of the buildings built by various civilizations are lost among the modern constructions like high rise buildings. However, the most valuable ones have been preserved for their historic prominence and value. The architecture of southern India is completely different from what is found in northern India. The temples are conical and they are really tall and huge. They used wide pillars for constructions and most of them contained detailed in scriptures and carvings. Almost all the buildings were intricate.
