Egypt is renowned all over the world for its architecture. |
Even today, people from far and beyond come to see the structures in Egypt. The pyramids and the magnificent sphinx are the greatest achievements of Egyptian architecture. They are also the most famous structures of Egypt. Each of the structures among the pyramids is at least 482 feet in height. The pyramids are bigger than many other structures in the world, including the Statue of Liberty. However, the astonishing fact is that how did people manage to build it without machines and modern equipment. And, that is why they are considered as the architectural marvels of the world.
The pyramids have a step shape, and they were built for the purpose of housing tombs for the after life of kings and pharaohs. The great pyramid of Giza, which is the tallest and biggest of all the pyramids, was built by King Khufu nearly 4,500 years ago. It was made out of blocks of granite. The stone masons chiseled the blocks to perfection and made sure all the stones were of equal in dimensions. This shows that the ancient Egyptians had used some kind of mathematical equations to arrive at such perfect symmetry. They used huge barges to haul the stones from another place. These heavy granite blocks were brought from some other place. It could have taken several years to build the pyramids of Giza. First all the blocks of granite were arranged one on top of the other and then the stone masons worked on them and set them with mortar.
