Spain is a beautiful country to visit for its architecture and the beautiful colors.

Today, the architecture of Spain is carried out almost anywhere. The colors are so bright that the world is in love with it and they try to bring out this color in their own ways. Spanish architecture is unique to the land and its geographical limitations.The first known people to inhabit the land in Spain were from Iberia, and this was in 4000 BC. So the present day history we find in Spain has a lot of influences of Iberian architecture. It is also very similar to the Mediterranean architecture.

When the Romans arrived in Spain, they saw some real improvement in architecture and also the Romans left behind some of the greatest monuments behind. After that the Visigoths came and there was a steady decline in architecture. In 711 AD, Spain was invaded by the Moors, and they established Cordoba as their capital. The Muslim Umayyad dynasty was ruling Spain at that point of time. In Spain, the Christian kingdoms were also emerging simultaneously and there were Romanesque and Gothic influences in the architecture. The Mudejar styles existed from the 12th to 17th centuries. There was a strong influence of European and Arabic styles.

At the end of 15th century, Spain influenced the architecture of Latin America, especially its colonies. This influence lasted for quite some time. However, at the same time, Spain was also getting in Renaissance architecture. This style was promoted by the local architects. Nonetheless, it is Spanish Baroque style of architecture that became dominant and withstood the influence from other countries and other styles of architecture.

The 19th century saw Spanish architecture undergoing more changes with revivalism, eclecticism, and regionalism making in roads. Then came the era of Modernism where architects like Gaudi left their mark. Modernism continued into the 20th century. This paved way for next phase of architectural revolution, which is currently taking place in Spain. This is the contemporary architecture.
