Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering which studies about mechanics and its application. |
In mechanical engineering, a student will have to study physics, mathematics and material science. It is basically a study of power like mechanical and kinetic power. A person who has studied mechanical engineering can design tools, machines and engines that generate power to perform various tasks.Studying mechanical engineering requires a thorough understanding of the core concepts of thermodynamics, kinematics, heat, material science and also of energy. The mechanical engineer uses all these core concepts to design and plan and implements manufacturing plants. These days studying and working as a mechanical engineer is simpler because of the use of computers. Complicated designs can be tested and tried easily with the help of computers and it is a time and cost saving process.
The study of mechanical engineering is not new and has been there since historic times. Ever since man learned to make tools out of metal and also simple devices for everyday living, they have used the concepts of metallurgy and mechanics. However, it may not have been termed so. The study of mechanical engineering became official and was introduced in the colleges of England in the early 19th century. Eventually mechanical engineering also branched out into electrical and automobile engineering. However, the core concepts are still from the mechanical engineering faculty. Mechanical engineering became popular with time as there was a rise in demand for people who have studied it during the Industrial Revolution.
