Structural Engineering Basics

Structural engineering is a very important and integral part of civil engineering.

Have you ever wondered how the Eiffel Tower stands in spite of being so tall or how the Twin Towers of Malaysia were made with such accuracy and precision? All these answers are covered by the basics of structural engineering. It is extremely important to understand the ratios and dimensions of buildings and the materials. How tall can be a building made and how to construct is something that has to be planned. As a part of the subject of structural engineering, a lot of these facts are covered. There is an equation of proportion for everything that is constructed.

The basics of structural engineering deal with the analysis and the design of the structures. Also, the support system and the load bearing of the building are calculated. Structural engineering is studied along with civil engineering, but some people study it as a separate subject also.

This branch of engineering deals with large structures which can be a building or just any structure. Large structures are very complicated and how they are made to stand is difficult to understand. For example, if you go on building a straight wall by placing one brick on top of the other eventually after reaching a certain height, the wall will collapse. That is because it can no longer stand because the height and mass are disproportionate. It is not about building structures only. Even how to tear down structures in a safe and proper manner is studied as a part of structural engineering.

Types-Of-Civil-Engineering      Civil engineering deals with construction, designing and building various structures. These structures can be buildings, houses, bridges, transportation facilities, and roads. Civil engineering covers the entire infrastructure department. A civil engineer is capable of designing, planning and executing designs that can be built upon. It also involves the study of various building materials. Architecture is also a part of civil engineering. There are many branches within the arena of civil engineering. More..
