Social engineering is a newly emerged science, and is a part of computer engineering. |
A person who wants to study social engineering should study computer engineering first and then specialize in social engineering. The term social engineering refers to the security aspect of computers.Today, almost all tasks that people do like shopping, applying for loans, communicating and much more require the use of computers. Personal information is always exposed on the Internet. In order to keep this type of information safe, a separate branch was developed and is known as social engineering. It is a non-technical kind of job and it completely depends on the interaction of human beings with the computers. It involves in tricking other people to break the normal rules. A social engineer is basically responsible for designing and running a con game.
For example, a social engineer would be required to break into a computer network. This will let the security experts know how dependable the security measures of the network are. Also, a social engineer will also gain the confidence of a network person to do this or get their plan executed. The social engineer can call upon a network engineer with an urgent kind of problem and use their helping nature to break into the network. Security experts often use social engineers to design their own security systems.
The legality and the ethics of it are still arguable and most of the social engineers actually work undercover. Social engineers do not explicitly describe their nature of work to others.
