Why Is Archaeology Important ?

Archeology deals with the study of human culture and behavior of the people in ancient times. It is carried out by excavating the ancient human settlements that reveal the human lifestyles and culture of the past. Archeology is frequently considered as the branch of anthropology. A question may arise pertaining to the study of archaeology - why it is important to study it?

The study involved in archaeology helps us to know the culture and settlements that existed in the ancient world centuries ago. It makes us aware of the facts about the people in ancient times like what they ate, wore, where they lived, how they earned their livelihood and many others. Archaeology has helped in determining the history and culture of various countries, continents and has answers for all questions related to the lifestyles and patterns people followed in the ancient world. It has helped in understanding the lifestyles and human culture in the prehistoric world, and has also helped in establishing the chronological order of the ancient world.

The archeological excavations carried out in the parts of Indian sub-continent has revealed a very significant civilization and was named as Indus Valley Civilization which once existed in the 2600-1900 BC. The Indus valley civilization was explored in the year 1920, which revealed the facts about human settlements that were scientifically advanced and more developed having well developed trade routes and planned cities. The Indus Valley Civilization is also known as Mohenjo Daro and Harappa civilization.

Archaeological studies have helped in understanding various cultures and religion such as the Egyptian religion which was unclear for thousands of years. It clarifies the misunderstanding and confusions in history and gives a brief idea about the occurrences that took place at what time and what were the consequences of the same. The archaeological studies have helped doctors to research the existence of epidemic and other diseases conceded from the ancient world.
