The art in the United States has been strongly influenced by the European art. Paintings, Sculptures and other form of arts are all influenced by the European Artists since colonial times. The artists in United States started developing their own American style of artistry to encourage the future artists in the country.

The scenic views in the cities of the twentieth century are the passionately illustrated countryside paintings of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. The pop art and conceptual expressionism in the United States have progressed by the modern movements. The art in United States is recognized by the variety of styles incorporated by various artists from different geographical regions. The art and style of rural and urban American artists differ from each other. The art in United States have been affected by technological, social and political improvements.

The art in the sixteenth century of America begun with the explorers, artists and environmentalist from Britain as the United States was under colonial rule. The most distinguished artist John White, a British, specialized in water coloring is the first who started practicing art in the country. As the colonial rule started penetrating in the United States, new form of arts were introduced. Portrait painting, a regional form of painting was started practicing in the country as more and more colonies were established. The portrait painting started resembling the sixteenth century and the work from prominent artists like Freake Limner, an artist who created the Freake Family illustrated the type of work performed in New England during 1670-75. Exceptional portraits can be seen preserved at the Worchester Art Museum in Massachusetts painted by Mrs. Elizabeth Freake, Mr. John Freake and Baby Mary. These portraits are some of the splendid illustrations of the quality of art that the United States had in the sixteenth century.
