Art in the Western Africa were greatly developed and most of the African Americans brought in the US are from this region. The languages spoken in this region were very soft spoken and the rate of speech was good that can be used to easily rhyme and made songs. Also, they had a very good traditional folk dance. |
Banterers, metal workers and Wood Carvers procured the required images, objects and totem animals whereas, designers & weavers prepared idols for gods to celebrate the cult ceremonies. Therefore, the Visual arts were having great importance in the tribal people.
The past history of the African American art in ascending order started from Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, England and America. It is falsely said that the African American culture came from Sahara Africa; however it came from the Middle East and Europe. Most of the African Americans were not aware about the history of their ancestors for several years.
The African American society has contributed in minority to the US literature. People in the US are unaware of these contributions and are also not found in the syllabus of school books. A very few in number, but some great contributions have been made by these African American artists.
Johnston Joshua, master of discrete portraits from Baltimore in the 19th century, was a mysterious painter and has been identified lately. Landscape paintings of remarkable artist Robert S. Duncanson contributed in shaping an American school famous for landscape painting. Henry Ossawa Tanner employed vibrant and thick colors to perform his work. A beautiful way to express aspects of life was founded by Horace Pippin, who created art by poking the wood creating joys of life and awfulness of wars. William H.
