Japan has been recognized always as the land of Samurai’s and for different forms of stunning art. The Japanese art retains its artistic legacy with inclusion of some foreign art. Japan has faced a period when ideas and concepts once flooded from the outside world and also a period came when there was no contact from the outside world.

Japanese artists have used different mediums to express the various types of traditional Japanese art. The traditional Japanese art encompasses a wide variety of mediums to express the forms of arts. Traditional Japanese art includes stunning paintings, pottery and Japanese sculptures. Two unique forms of arts originated and practiced in Japan are Ikebana and Origami. Ikebana is an art of arranging flowers, while Origami is an art of folding paper.

The Japanese painting is the oldest of all traditional arts in Japan, exclusive and unique in own style. The Japanese art showcases an extensive variety of different styles that contains concepts and ideas involved from the outside world. Different eras in the history of Japan had affected the forms of traditional Japanese art. Throughout the Nara period, Murals were the most stunning and important form of art. In Ikaruga, this form of traditional art was seen for the first time on the walls of the holy place Horyu-ji.

The styles used in these paintings were relatively alike to the Chinese paintings that illustrated the spiritual values and stories from the paintings of the Nara period. Buddhism has inspired the Japanese traditional art and brought new types of art for the traditional Japanese culture. The mid Heian period saw several artists putting religion into paintings and the evaporation of Chinese art from the Japanese art. The Zen monasteries do impacted the traditional Japanese art, which was witnessed in the fourteenth century. The famous Japanese Yuan and Sung dynasty witnessed Ink painting and introduced to the Japanese artists.
