Slide steps are extremely common in folk dances. Here, the dancer moves from one point to the other. This can be in the form of a straight line or in the form of a circle. The dancer places his right foot on one side and moves the left foot towards the right foot so that both meet together. The same steps are performed with the left foot on the other side. This time the right foot is moved towards the left to create a slide step.
While performing Polka, the left foot is used for hopping while the right foot is used for stepping. Now, the left foot is placed next to the right foot. For the next step, the right foot is used for hopping and the left for stepping and vice versa.
Hopping steps on the other hand are very easy to master. The dancer will lift his feet off the ground after hopping once or twice. The dancer will also alternate between steps and hops to create a gliding type of motion. Folk dances are one of the easiest types of dances to learn and master.
