Moonwalk is synonymous to Michael Jackson. His dances were so complex and stylish that it almost became just as famous as his songs. The popularity of his moonwalk performance rose to staggering heights and it soon became his trademark signature style. However, Michael Jackson did not create moonwalk. |
James Brown is credited for inventing this form of dance, where the person looks like he is moving forwards but is actually moving backwards. Michael Jackson perfected the sliding motion. Moonwalk therefore became associated with his singing as well. His first performance was at the Motown's twenty-fifth anniversary. It became his trademark style ever since.
The original moonwalk dance creates a four-corner illusion. When you look at the dancer, you would get a feeling that the person is sliding around the dance floor in a square shape. It is very easy to master the sliding and gliding motions of moonwalk dance. If you follow certain basics steps, you could easily dance around like the singing sensation and surprise your family and friends.
Firstly, place your feet together on a flat surface. Next, place you right heel in such a way that your entire body weight is tilted and balanced on your right toe. Bend the right knee at the same time. Keep the left foot behind your right foot. Place it fatly on the ground for support and balance. Also, remember to keep the left foot straight. Do not bend. Then place your right heel down on the floor and straighten your right leg. Simultaneously, lift the left heel up and also bend the left leg. This should be done simultaneously to create an illusion of sliding and gliding. Practice it many times over.
