History Of Chinese Dance

The art of dancing in Chinese history dates back to more than 5,000 years. Dancing was considered a very important tradition and was often looked from a religious or spiritual point of view. The Chinese basically had four types of dancing methods, namely:

The Chinese dances were different from one village to the other. The Han dynasty witnessed the formation of a musical court were dancers would gather at one place and perform. The dances would then be documented. In the Tang dynasty, dancing became more lavish and modern. Costumes were given primary importance during this period. Rich colored costumes and accessories were added making the dance a live spectacle. Evolution in trade led to increased intermingling of different countries and cultures. China started trading with other Asian countries like India and Japan. This in turn led to numerous variations in Chinese dances.

Chinese dances focused on improving the hand eye coordination of the person. Props were used extensively. Brightly colored costumes with intricate designs and patterns were very popular. Gestures and expressions played a crucial role.
