Numerous factors go into painting walls and ceilings of domestic and commercial buildings. Our homes or offices are subjected to external environmental fluctuations. This in turn affects their overall texture and appearance. Pollution, dust, extreme heat, rain, mold growth, fungi and snow can cause extensive damage to the exteriors and interiors. |
The walls, furniture, and other interiors are subjected to varying levels of moisture. Lack of proper ventilation can lead to accumulation of water vapor within the house. This in turn seeps through the walls, ceilings, furniture etc. causing unwanted damage. The paint coatings are damaged. They start peeling off from the surface. Moisture can also lead to growth of microorganisms like fungi, mildew, molds, etc. These microorganisms also start growing on furniture, carpets, rugs, cushions and other accessories.
To prevent moisture accumulation, make sure your home is well ventilated. Open the doors and windows for cross circulation. You can also coat your walls with waterproof paints. These paints will prevent water molecules from seeping through. They act as perfect vapor barriers and prevent moisture from damaging the interiors of the walls. Before applying a coat of waterproof paint, check out the insulation and sheetrock of the wall. Make sure it is dry. Pay special attention to rooms that are exposed to maximum moisture. This includes your bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms. Also give due importance to places that are not generally well ventilated and airy. This includes your attics, basements and garages.
You can also apply a coat of waterproof paint topcoat on top of the vapor barrier for extra protection. Make sure the moisture escapes through the windows and doors instead of seeping through your walls and furniture.
