Painting requires a lot of creativity, a dash of interest and loads of colors. You can play around with different colors and create a new masterpiece each time. It is a very effective medium to convey the person’s emotions and feelings. In fact, you need not have any formal certification or educational training to master this art. |
You can literally paint anything under the roof. Scenery, animals, buildings, portraits, abstract designs are just a few options to consider. In fact, each type of design requires a different sized paintbrush. Get used to a particular company or brand of paintbrushes. This way, you will have a better grip and control on your painting.
You can use either acrylic paints or watercolor paints. They are easy to use and perfect for portrait paintings. If you are trying to paint for the first time, try using a canvas panel. However, remember that adding too much water will cause the canvas to curl inwards. To avoid this, you can always paint a large X on the backside of the canvas. This will prevent the canvas from curling inside.
For painting large strokes, use a larger sized brush. For adding the final minute details, use a smaller brush. For example, to outline the lips and eyes, it is better to use smaller sized brushes. For the face as a whole, finish the portrait with a large sized brush. In order to add a 3 D effect, you can create a shaded image. For this, paint one side of the face with a darker skin color while the other side of the face should be lighter. Mix a little bit of black paint and a little bit of white to bring about the dark and light shades respectively.
