Astronomy is an old but exciting subject, filled with mystery and mathematics. Scientists have and are still today, constantly working towards unraveling the various signs and codes that the planets and the solar system around us have in store. Every day, some or the other major breakthroughs are made in this field. Here are some of the recent developments related to astronomy. |
Researchers have come up with one of the most modern telescopes of today- the HAWK-I. It is one of the largest and the most powerful of its kind available now. Earlier, astronomers used to have difficulties in studying the galaxies situated far away from us due to the glowing gas and dust present there. But with HAWK-I, one can view the faraway galaxies quite clearly, without the interference of anything extra present in the surroundings there.
Using Green Bank Telescope or the GBT of the National Science Foundation, the astronomers discovered the largest star ever known to mankind yet. This recent discovery is touted now as one of the most important ones not only in the field of astronomy, but also in subjects like astrophysics and physics. This star is calculated to be twice as much as the Sun in terms of massiveness. This fact now rules out several of the theories and assumptions made by the astronomers earlier about the neutron stars’ internal composition.
Another breakthrough in the field of astronomy now enables scientists and researchers to explore about 10,000 years into the future and foresee the stars’ movements at that time. Omega Centauri, the globular star cluster located in the Milky Way will now make this possible, using the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope to view it.
