The year 2012 is a very interesting year because there have been several predictions about the year and also the popular prediction that the world is going to come to an end in that year. The world is supposed to come to an end on December 21, 2012 because that is the last day of the Mayan Calendar. Also, supporting this theory is that the winter solstice is aligned with the Milky Way. |
The Mayan civilization was an advanced civilization in the ancient times and they used complicated methods to draw up calendars that were accurate. Their calendar was pretty more complex than the English calendar that is cyclical. So based on their calculations the last day of the calendar is in 2012. However, there have been no direct predictions that the world is going to end then.
People have come with several interpretations of the calendar and their own theories of how the world is going to end. However, the Mayan calendar never predicted the end of the world. The Mayan calendar is also dependent on cyclical periods and it is just that the cycles are much longer. Even if the Mayans believed that the world is going to come to an end by 2012, there have been no evidences so far found to prove that. There has been no explanation either anywhere in their scriptures. It is as good as saying the sun would not rise tomorrow. Also, the fact that the winter solstice is aligned with the Milky Way has no evidence in theory to support it. It takes the winter solstice nearly 700 or more years to cross the galaxy.
