The Milky Way is one of the most enigmatic galaxies we have in our surrounding universe. Several astronomers get intrigued and amazed with the beauty of the Milky Way. If you look at it through a telescope, it looks like a stream of milk flowing with lots of shining particles in it. In the middle of it all is a very huge black hole making it seem like an eye. |
Scientists have been trying to discover how big the Milky Way is and what are its contents and so on. However, after so much research and findings even today they know very little about this galaxy.
The Milky Way is a huge and complex arrangement of stars. It would take a person one hundred thousand years to cross the Milky Way alone. All the stars that we see in the night are just some of the stars that we see that belong to the galaxy. The Milky Way is billions of years away. However, to get at an accurate figure is impossible. It could be nearly 250,000 billion years away. The farther the star is, the less bright it looks.
All the stars in the Milky Way are quite bright and we are able to see only a part of it though. So, going by these fundamentals the Milky Way is perhaps closer to us than we thought. The stars are measured for their wattage and based on that the distance is calculated by astronomers. However, there is no specific size or entry point to the Milky Way using which we can determine the exact entry point.
