Orion Belt Nebula

Orion is known as the master of the winter skies and one can start seeing it clearly from early spring. The star that trails at its end is called the Sirius or the hunting dog. The constellation is comprised of three main stars and they form a belt. These three stars are called Mintaka, Alnilam and Alnitak. The Bible has also citations of these three major stars of the Orion belt.

The stars that come at the end of the belt are known as Zeta Orionis, and are also very popular stars of this belt. The most famous star of this belt is the blue and white star and the next one is the dull red in color. However, this red star is not visible to the naked eye that easily. The horse head nebula is very close to this particular star of the Solar System. All these stars are made of hot gases.

The horse head nebula is often considered a part of the belt, and it is also the darkest nebula of all. The Orion is made up very beautiful colors and is often bright in the photographs. Some of the colors you can notice are pink, yellow, deep red and orange and also shell pink. It is a combination of all these colors and looks like a beautiful blend in the end.

The three main stars of the Orion belt are also called super giants, and they are much bigger than the sun. They are about 1500 light years away from the earth.
