Fact About Solar System

There are so many interesting facts about the Solar System that we know only a few things about it and there is more being discovered. We used to believe that our Solar System is made up of nine planets only and they revolve around the sun. However, there is much more to our own Solar System than we think.

After the telescope was invented, discovering the entire universe has become possible, but it is still not enough. There are other celestial bodies in the Solar System like comets and asteroids also. The 4 planets that are closest to each other are Mars, Venus, Mercury, and our very own Earth. These planets put together are called terrestrial planets and the reason is that they all share the same rocky and hard surfaces. The four bigger planets which are closer to each other again are Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Uranus. These planets are called the gas giants because they are made up of huge volumes of gas.

The planet Pluto does have a hard surface but is only ice entirely. Almost all the planets in the Solar System have an atmosphere. The Earth’s atmosphere is predominantly made up of nitrogen and oxygen. The atmosphere on Venus is made up of carbon dioxide and also has several poisonous gases like sulfur dioxide. Mars also has carbon dioxide entirely in its atmosphere. Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus and Saturn are made up of hydrogen and helium. The interesting thing about Pluto is that it travels to paces outside its orbit also. Pluto is somewhat like a comet in nature.

Formation-Of-The-Solar-System      Astronomers and scientists make an educated guess that the Solar System could have formed some 4.56 billions years ago, and its formation could have been caused due to the collapse of a giant molecular cloud. All the collapsed mass collected in the center and formed the sun. The remaining could have spread in the form of a disk, and then the planets, moon, asteroids and smaller objects in the Solar System could have formed. More..
