Scientists and astronomers have been after two things and that is our Solar System and the universe. How these were created and what lies inside and outside the Solar System is a big question to us. The Solar System has been explored much more through telescopes than the entire universe. Other than the Earth we all know that there are nine planets in the Solar System. |
Today, we also have the information of the make of these planets and what every planet can possibly have. There are hundreds of planets outside the Solar System too and we do not know most of them and have not discovered thousands of more of them. Every galaxy has tens of thousands of planets. Imagine that Earth is just a small planet among the thousands of other planets that exist as a part of the Milky Way. The universe is made up of hundreds of such galaxies.
It is very difficult to estimate how many planets are out there in the universe. Planets could have formed after the big bang happened in the universe. This could have taken place nearly 13.6 billions of years ago. Ever since then the planets have been forming and colliding with each other and newer planets have been forming. Did you know that there are hundreds of planets outside the Solar System that are hundreds of times bigger than the sun? Studying the universe is not an easy task, but it is an interesting one. And, the more we discover, the more complicated it turns out to be.
