There are many interesting theories on how the Solar System came into existence. The most popular one among them is that the Solar System was born out of a nebula, which had a very dense nucleus called the protosun. This protosun was surrounded by gaseous matter and the dust soon started collapsing on itself. The dense matter started clearing up and center of the Solar System condensed. |
Extreme heat was created in the middle and it started burning several hydrogen atoms at the core. There was a nuclear fusion reaction created, and it started growing. It grew to a very big size, and that is what became the sun. As the dust left over from the nebula started revolving, it collapsed itself and started forming large spaces of chunk or debris. Soon larger and larger pieces started to occur and they collected with each other. They formed solid planets and some of the gas particles condensed and formed gaseous planets.
Among the eight remaining planets, Earth, Jupiter, Venus and Mars are the solid planets. Neptune, Pluto, Saturn and mercury are the gaseous planets. All these planets have their won moons revolving around them. A planet typically orbits the sun and the moon orbits the planet. When there is an object found in the orbit of the planet, it is called a moon. Earth has only one moon, while Jupiter has sixteen moons. However, right now scientists are debating whether Pluto is a planet at all because it does not qualify to be one.
