There are nine planets in the Solar System, and they are sun, mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. If we were to arrange the planets in the Solar System in a specific order, then it would be in the above order. These planets revolve around the sun, and they also orbit around themselves. The smaller celestial bodies found in the orbits of these planets are called moon. For example, the Earth has one moon and Jupiter has 16 moons. Saturn has several moons. |
Other than the moons and the planets there are other smaller bodies in the Solar System like comets and asteroids. There are also smaller stars in the Solar System. The entire Solar System exists in a galaxy called Milky Way and there are several other galaxies within the Milky Way in the Universe.
The planets in the Solar System are unique and the scientists believe that the Solar System was created about 4.5 billions of years ago. It was a result of an explosion of the protosun. Solar System basically formed out of a collision and even today there are several collisions taking place in the universe. Though we learn that there are nine planets in our Solar System, there is a possibility that there are 10 planets and also that Pluto is not a planet. These facts still have to be officially declared. Pluto has a tendency to move away from its orbit like a comet and it is not a quality of a planet. That is why it is disqualified from being a planet.
