It is very important to be passionate about the job that you are doing as a marine biologist as it is one of the least lucrative industries. A marine biologist’s job profile is very different from any other job you could think of. They do not have regular work hours, and there is no time span for working hours.

A marine biologist’s findings and research notes is important for the work. Also, there is no growth in position, and if you are good biologists, then you can show it through your work and contributions.

There are many companies related to oceanography and sea related studies that would hire a marine biologist. It could also be magazines related to sea life that could hire marine biologists. For example, Smithsonian and National Geographic are two television and print media networks that would hire a marine biologist. The pay scales of marine biologists vary largely, depending on the geographic location. A marine biologist has to travel widely and go to different places to study sea life. While he or she is traveling, the expenses would be paid by the hiring company. These expenses would be for air fare, living costs, food and accommodation. However, if a marine biologist is conducting a research on their own, then either they could work on a grant or self investment.

In the United States, the average salary for marine biologists with mid level experience could be around $20 an hour.
