Biology is the study of all living beings. Right from the smallest algae or microorganism to the biggest living being is covered under biology. How microorganisms live, how do they function and how they affect other living beings is studied in biology. There are several divisions of biology, and it is divided based on the type of subject it is dealing with. For example, if the study is about extinct dinosaurs, it is called paleontology. So, biology encompasses everything about life which does not exist anymore and which exists everywhere. |
There are several characteristics pertaining to life. Life is dependant on several factors, and even these are studied in biology. What happens inside a living being is also studied by biology. All these aspects are important for the survival of life. Life is a process of evolution, and biology even studies this process. There are so many factors like cells, energy, sunlight, earth, gases, greenhouse effect and many more conditions that are crucial for the survival of life.
There are hundreds of beings on the planet, and they all grow and become big. This also includes virus and bacteria. Life is a process of continuous evolution and extinction, and both these aspects of life are studied by biology.
Biology cannot be defined in a nut shell as it studies the very being of the planet. In fact, the earth is the only planet where life exists so far as the conditions here are suitable. All the properties of earth are also covered by biology under environmental science.
