What Are Elements Composed Of ?

Elements are so-called substances that cannot be separated into smaller substances. For example, salt is made up of sodium and chloride which are elements and water is made of hydrogen and oxygen which are also elements. These elements cannot be further divided and they will remain the same in their form.

The smallest particle of any matter is called an atom. This is the smallest possible particle of an element. For example aluminum can be segregated into smaller bits until you reach a point where you cannot make it into any smaller bits. This is called an aluminum atom. So, every element is made up of atoms.

To make the understanding of elements simpler, the chemists use symbols as a representation. The symbol will consist of the number of atoms found in the element. Using these symbols or letters one can identify what element it is. There are several different elements with its own individual properties. There are tables and charts that are used to group the elements based on their characteristics and nature. It is also easier to remember the names of the elements based on the chart or the group of characteristics they exhibit. There are two kinds of elements the natural elements and the man made elements. The man made elements is a combination of natural elements which would otherwise not mix in nature.

Elements are very simple to understand because they are so unique. Actually everything around us like air, and water are elements of nature. Even fire is a natural element because it causes a chemical reaction. All elements cause some or the other chemical reaction in nature.
