A molecule is defined as the smallest part of a chemical element. Every chemical compound is made of molecules and some chemical compounds contain more than two or three types of molecules. Molecules are further made of smaller parts known as atoms. |
A molecule can be a combination of different atoms. These atoms bond together and make a molecule. The atoms share the electrons and most of the chemical reactions depend on how these atoms and molecules behave with each other.
Some chemicals or elements found in nature readily bond with each other and form molecules. For instance, hydrogen bonds with oxygen and in the right combination they form water. When two atoms of hydrogen combine with one atom of oxygen they form one molecule of water. Molecules also vary in size and shape in various elements. The presence of molecules is represented by a chemical formula. This chemical formula will reveal how many atoms are present in one single molecule. Every natural and organic or inorganic substance found on earth has a chemical formula.
There are some molecules of chemicals that do not bond with others like neon and argon. Helium, for instance, has only one atom and that is how it can exist. They do not mix their qualities with others. Molecules can form chains by joining thousands of atoms together. Some proteins and even DNA structures have this quality. Molecules are also constantly moving and they are trying to form a bond with another molecule.
