There are two main branches. Economics is divided into micro-economics and macro-economics.The study of economics is a very interesting topic. Eventually, one will realize that when we study economics we do not really study the resources (for example, money) under consideration. Instead, what we are actually concerned with is human behavior. For example, an individual’s thought process when he wants a certain good, and then consumes it a topic to be studied under micro-economics.

Now we come to an engaging question. What is the reason we study economics? The answer is a variety of things, such as:

• A basic understanding of economics will give us a better understanding of the political situation and the financial state of our country today. Indeed, it is every individual’s responsibility as a responsible citizen of the country to cultivate a basic understanding of economics. This will lead us to form our own opinions about the decisions our government is taking on our behalf, and possible even raise our voices against these decisions if we do not agree with them.
• A person who studies economics gives himself the tools to be a better consumer. A detailed study of demands, wants and the utility of an object will help us to make better choices as a responsible consumer, who has limited resources available at hand.
• As you have seen, economics is a very interesting subject which is incredibly relevant in these times, and the study of economics is essential to be an informed citizen of the world.
