The English alphabet sounds so easy because we already know them. However, when you see a child, they will be struggling to learn and identify the sounds of the alphabet because they are learning for the first time. If you try to teach a child in the contemporary way by making them write directly on to the board, then it could be very difficult. |
There are several interactive ways to teach a child about learning the alphabet. This way they learn it faster and also correctly.
One of the interesting methods to teach the alphabet to young children was developed by Maria Montessori. Through this method, children with learning disabilities also learnt the alphabet faster. Children have extremely sensitive fingers and also there was a direct connection between touch, feel and understanding the sensation. Using this, Maria Montessori developed a method of sensitizing the fingers and tracing the letters of the alphabet. Children are allowed to trace the shape of the letter on a sand paper when they are young. The rough edges of the sand paper give them a good idea of how the letter is written and how it looks. Soon enough it was found that the children learnt to read write and understand the alphabet at the same time.
Interactive audio and visual games are another interesting way to teach children the alphabet. Children learn to identify the letters of the alphabet by learning the words that the letters represent. Some people teach the alphabet with the popular alphabet song. So, by using paintings, drawing and also music, one can teach children the alphabet rather easily.
