Summary Of Chinese Literature

Prehistoric literature of China is considered as the most expensive asset of the Chinese civilization that took place thousands of years before. It consists of records from the past written by ancient Chinese scholars like Folk Ballads collection of the Zhou Dynasty, the book of songs, autumn and spring period of the 6th Century B.C. which is China’s collection of poems.

The Book of Songs written by the same author Qu Yuan who also wrote Li Sao are found to be the greatest of all classics literary in the ancient Chinese history. After this the, literary works in China were developed after succeeding empires. The Han dynasty saw the Yuefu Folk Songs, pre-Qin prose and magnificent Han Fu literary works which were observed when the Han dynasty came to an end. Sima Qian, a writer during the Han dynasty, who wrote ‘records of the historian’, is esteemed as a sculpture of biographical literature. The splendid Yuefu folk are well represented in the Peacock files, which quite popular among the Chinese.  

Two dynasties in 220-420 B.C. are considered as the greatest period of producing great poems and poets in China, the Jin and Wei dynasties. Cao Cao, a national and international leader, with his 2 sons, Cao Pi and Cai Zhi, have given Chinese literature several poems that are energetic and enthusiastic. Tang Dynasty had above fifty thousand poems written by great Chinese scholars and poets. Chinese people take pride in poets like Bai Juyi and Li Bai Du Fu who were the most respected among the Chinese poets.

After this, the Qing and Ming dynasties saw the creation of novels and appreciated it. A Dream of Red Mansions penned by Cao Xueqin, Journey to the West authored by Wu Chengen, the Three Kingdoms written by Luo Guan Hong and the novel by Shi Nai’an, Outlaws of the Mars, are 4 magnum opuses found within Chinese literature.
