Guitar is one of the most popular of all the musical instruments in the world today. These days, almost every second American child wants to learn to play the guitar. There are some basic steps to begin learning to read guitar music. First of all, when you get a guitar music sheet, keep in mind that it does not only deal with guitar notes, but also includes bass parts, piano parts, etc. So ensure that you concentrate only on the guitar part, at least in the beginning. Now remember a thumb rule - the 6-string guitar parts are in treble clef and the bass guitar parts are in bass clef. Remember, on the bass clef, the 5 lines are G-B-D-F-A, and begin from low to high.

Now, identifying the scale of the particular music you are going to play. To do that you have to locate the chords and notes the music starts and finishes with.

Now let us come to the topic of time signature. Now that you know about the treble and bass clef and also about the key music is in, it is time to understand the song rhythm, which in other words is called the time signature. It is denoted as a fraction in the beginning of a line. For instance, a 4/4 time signature is usually used for pop and rock music.

The main challenge when it comes to reading a guitar sheet music is when you do not remember the fact that guitar can be tuned in various ways. Thus, guitarists need to check whether their guitars are tuned in accordance to the sheet music so as to sound right.
