Some experts believe that the relationship between sociology and philosophy is some thins like a learned person and a young child. Philosophy has traditional values of how life has to be lived and what a human being should adhere to in term of values. Also, a philosophical master always passes on to their students about what they believe and what they have learnt. The knowledge could come from their own experience or they could learn from others experience. |
Sociology on the other hand is the study of the society. It attempts to understand the social behavior and the problems at large. Several of its finding are based on philosophy and that is why sociology and philosophy are deeply related to each other. Sociology is more dependent on philosophy for answers. Several of the theories in sociology are explained with the concepts of philosophy.
Philosophy is the study of life itself. However, most of the findings in philosophy exist in the theoretical way only. There is no proof and records to substantiate them. Even sociology studies are based on people’s behavior and every single subject who is a human differs from the other. Sociology though addresses only the problems and does not tell people how they should live life and nor does it teach moral and ethical values unlike philosophy. People who study sociology can become advisors and also researchers on the society and its values. There are multiple facets of the society and sociology as a subject understands this aspect. Sociology also studies politics and political behavior to its subject. So there are several commonalities between sociology and philosophy.
