Aristotle never conducted any experiments in physics, and most of his discoveries were based on observations. Aristotle was mainly interested in the motion of objects. He observed several aspects of motion like why does the rock fall when the smoke rises, why planets move across the sky, why does water flow, or why does a flame rise into the air.

He also explained that earth is composed of five elements, and they are fire, earth, air, water and aether. The first four elements in the world interchange and relate to each other, and only aether was a completely different substance. He believed that aether was a divine substance sent from the heavens. He also explained the natural state of objects through which they maintained the state of balance. The motion of most objects was to reach the natural state. For example, a rock falls down because it wants to maintain its natural realm.

Smoke rises in the air because it is comprised of fire and air. However, he did not explain anything in a mathematical way. Water falls naturally down because its natural realm is under the earth. So, whatever Aristotle explained in relation to physics, he used a philosophical meaning rather than a mathematical proof to sustain his findings.
