Holography is actually a type of photography which is taken in a three dimensional way. Sometimes more number of dimensions is included. They are very similar to holograms which pose a three dimensional aspect when you look at them. The whole concept works on the principles of physics. In regular photography, light diffuses on the objects and reflects in the scene. The camera’s lens sees the image and forms it on the film. |
So, what exactly does holography do? Holography collects or reconstructs the light that is scattered from an object and puts it together in such a way where the object looks as though it has been in the same position as the recording medium. The image is capable of changing, depending on the position of viewing. For example, if you look at it sideways it still seems the object has been clicked from that viewing point. That is why it has the three dimensional like appearance.
Holography is used for several things such as storing optical images, retrieving and processing them. Holography is also a commonly used concept in three dimensional pictures.
If we have to define holography is physics, we would simply say it is a volumetric display. Holography presents itself in several interesting and creative ways.
However, there is a common notion that holographic images are three dimensional and this is false. Three dimensional has a completely different meaning, and it relates to a different aspect of physics. Holography deals with the light and dispersion aspect of physics.
