Political science is a subject that deals with the study of the working of a government and other topics related to it. |
While researching and learning more about a particular type of government of political party, there are plenty of political science definitions that one needs to know of. Generally, since political science is a vast subject, most people prefer understanding the basic definitions and terms, pick up new concepts as they proceed with the subject.A few major terms, that are essential to understand while studying political science are: administrative law, bill of rights, bandwagon effect, foreign policy, federalism, COINTELPRO, checks and balances, new federalism, Truman Doctrine, welfare state, right to work laws and stare decisis. These are just a few to name among many others, however, it is essential to know all these laws and terms if you intend to take political science as your main stream subject.
Certain terms are considered so normal while studying political science that you can almost never find their definitions because of their regularity in usage! While some are considered so important, that most authors choose never to explain them because a huge section of the students are already familiar with the topic. For example, the COINTELPRO, also known as the ‘Counter Intelligence Program’ conducted by the FBI, wherein they took up unethical ways that irritated Americans and caused problems for their organizations. Something like this is considered very elementary for a political science, so it is best to understand it before beginning with the subject. Also, it is especially important that you understand the basic laws and legislatures of the country you are studying about.
