Several sociologists study history to understand human behavior under various circumstances. For example, sociologists study how the world wars affected various communities and people and children. This helps them understand the aspect of human behavior better.Similarly, historians also study sociology because they can understand how people behaved under a certain culture. They may be studying history and historic events, but the behavior of people and what led to wars which are a part of history is also studied.

Sociology and history go hand in hand. They help each other understand and unravel the mysteries associated with the study. For example, a person studying World War I from a sociological aspect would first need to collect the historic facts. Like what was available, how the people had to find food, how diseases were treated, what types of diseases were prevalent and why they were caused is all a part of study of sociology. However, these are all historic facts and the person has to look into history to study these factors.

A sociologist may study selective subjects of history to arrive at their conclusions by collecting only the relevant data. History is not always referred to by a sociologist or the other way around. However, while studying a certain environment, every sociologist would like to look into a bit of historic facts so that they find similar examples. Using these examples they can draw more meaningful conclusions and also find evidence to sustain their evaluation.
