Sociology Of Development

Developmental sociology is an integral part of sociology.

It is also given least attention. Development plays a very important role in away a person thinks and acts in the society. People are constantly learning when they are interacting with the society. This explains one of the most common reasons form personality changes or behavior changes among human beings. Why do people change? The answer would be because they have to change and adjust their behavior patterns according to the society and its needs. For example, in a multicultural set up like India, when there were religious wars, people could not explicitly display their religious interests, and in fact they had to hide them. So, it was difficult to tell who was a Hindu or a Muslim. A person who believed very strongly in their religion also had to adapt to a different life. However, these incidents only bred more hatred in the community due to the compromises people had to make.

Usually compromise is considered as a good thing but if it has negative repercussions in the society then it may not be a desirable thing.

Sociology studies all these aspects so that people can know what to do in difficult situations. Globalization is also playing a very important role in the development of society. So far development was a term used only in pediatrics because of children. However, society is also a constantly developing phenomenon and people change constantly. Keeping all these mind several factors like globalizations, computerization, urbanization and several other modern aspects are considered as developmental factors to study society behavior.
